Meet the 12 challengers for ‘Pinoy Fear Factor: South America’

By Napoleon Quintos
Fear is definitely not a factor as 12 contestants face the challenges of Pinoy Fear Factor. The popular US reality program is the latest hit worldwide franchise by Endemol—the company behind Pinoy Big Brother and Pinoy Dream Academy—to be adapted for Philippine television. But instead of the weekly episodic format, Pinoy Fear Factor will follow the serialized theme of Fear Factor Extreme. The Philippines is the third country to use this format after South Africa and India. Pinoy Fear Factor will be shot in Buenos Aires, Argentina where the contestants will try to surpass several stunts and challenges. Who among them will conquer their greatest fears?

Finding these 12 finalists was the first challenge for Direk Lauren Dyogi and the people behind PFF. In the auditions held nationwide, hopefuls were asked to perform some small stunts and had to undergo physical and psychological examinations. Knowing how to swim and drive was also a strict requirement. There were also some contestants who failed to meet particular clauses in the contract hence had to back out, which further extended the selection process to almost two months.

These 12 challengers are set to leave by the end of August and they will stay in Argentina for a month. One will become the first winner of Pinoy Fear Factor: South America and will take home the P2 million cash prize and a house and lot worth P2.5 million from Avida.

Pinoy Fear Factor

Fear Factor will finally have a version tailor-made for the Filipino televiewers.

Instead of the usual weekly stunt show, Pinoy Fear Factor stretches as a full reality series which will be entirely shot in Buenos Aires, Argentina. As to why it will be shot in Argentina, Executive Producer Junjun Santiago explains “There are stunt rigs that are readily available there. The crew is waiting for us to begin shooting soon. They are very well versed with the stunts and with the safety issues. Sanay na rin sila pagdating sa coverage ng show.”

The contestants will be flown to Argentina where they will stay in a “boot camp” environment for 30 days. They will be doing a series of stunts and challenges that will test their fears to the limit. Those who will fail the task will be eliminated, until one winner emerges to take home the 2 million pesos jackpot prize. The show will be hosted by Ryan Agoncillo.
